Meet Some ASLS Students
Our students answer some questions about courses and studying with ASLS
They each have different career pathways, including going through ASLS using different modes of study, and then moving forward in their professions. Their experiences might help you to make your decisions about studying at ASLS.
Meet our students below!
Dallas Williams –
Completed Certificate IV in Training and Assessment with ASLS
ASLS: Dallas, tell us a little about your background…
DW: “I have been in the construction industry for more than 40 years. I am a licensed builder since 1989. In 2012, I decided to upgrade my skills and enrolled into the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to give myself the opportunity to work with apprentices within my industry. Originally, I had completed the training and assessment course in 2002, also with ASLS, so this was an upgrade for me.”
Would you recommend ASLS to others?
Dallas can discuss with you:
- Handling the practical aspects of the course such as making a presentation, delivering a training session and assessing someone else; and
- What support he received from his facilitators.

Watch the video to hear what Maria has to say.
Jodi Matthews –
Completed BSB51312 Diploma of Work Health and Safety with ASLS
Let’s find out a little about Jodi’s pathway…
In 2007 Jodi completed the Functioning as a Work Health & Safety Officer (WHSO) course whilst working as an Office Manager in the construction industry. After this, she took some time off to start a family before returning to a new role within a business that has a strong focus on safety. Jodi is now the Executive Assistant to the Regional Director to a global engineering corporation. As this business is OSHS 18001,ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 certified, it is important that the office has an experienced and well-qualified safety professional. Jodi completed the BSB41412 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety with ASLS earlier in 2014 and most recently the BSB51312 Diploma of Work Health and Safety with ASLS.
ASLS: What did you think about the course, Jodi?
JM: “I used some of the assessment pieces for the course and related them back to my area of expertise within the building industry. Others, I related to professional sporting, which is also a passion of mine and made it much easier for me to relate to it. I like having flexibility to develop training and assessment materials by using the guidelines but being flexible about not just using my industry but also other areas that I have skills and confidence in. It made it fun!”
