General Safety Induction (Construction industry)

This course is accredited by the Queensland Department of Employment and Training. The course meets the criteria for general safety induction for construction work under the Workplace Health and Safety Regulation 1997.

Who needs this induction?

  • From 1st of January 2006 all people (including employers, self-employed persons and workers) doing building work, housing construction, civil construction and demolition work
  • From 1st of January 2007 all people (including employers, self-employed persons and workers) doing additional types of construction work such as fit outs, renovations, repairs or refurbishment and asbestos removal

Outcome

Successful students will be issued with evidence of having completed the course. Evidence issued is:

  • A Statement of Attainment; and a
  • General Safety Induction (Construction Industry) card, commonly known as a “Blue Card”.

Course Duration

The course duration is approximately four hours, plus administration time of up to 30 minutes for assessment, marking and issuing of the induction evidence.

Language and Literacy Requirements

People with language or literacy problems can complete this course. Some people in the construction industry have problems with reading and writing or come from a non-English speaking background. Therefore, the course has been designed to be suitable for workers with limited literacy skills.

The assessment is undertaken in a non-threatening atmosphere with mostly short answer and multiple-choice questions. Workers with mild literacy problems have been able to successfully complete the assessments.

People with concerns about their level of literacy are encouraged to speak with the trainer when booking the course to arrange verbal assessment or other relevant alternatives.

Recognition for Prior Learning

Credit for the competencies may be available upon substantiation of a claim for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) in accordance with the approved RPL / RCC process.

Automatic credit may be available for the following training course:

  • 30108QLD Workplace Health and Safety Officer with the Constructive Elective.

Regular Course at Brendale

The course is held most Wednesdays from 8:30am to 12:30pm at our premises at Brendale. This is subject to change and places are also subject to availability.

Our regular programmed course costs $85.00 per person (No GST payable on this course). This is payable on the day – cash, cheque or EFTPOS.

Courses are held at our premises Unit 26 Strathlink, 27 South Pine Rd. Brendale (opposite the Strathpine railway station). Car parking available within the Strathlink complex.

You need to bring personal identification that includes a photo such as a Driver's Licence, Passport or a suitable alternative.

Client Specific Course

We also conduct courses specifically for clients by prior arrangement at the client's venue.

If held at a client's venue, the training facility will need to include:

  • table and chairs for each person attending
  • a separate table for the facilitator's resources
  • a whiteboard
  • a surface suited for data projection

and be in a quiet location suited for training purposes.
