Workplace Health and Safety Officer (WHSO)

This course is accredited by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and is a nationally recognised course listed on the national training register. The course meets the qualification criteria for functioning as a workplace health and safety officer under the provisions of sections 93 and 94 of the Workplace Health and Safety Act (1995).

Who will benefit from this training?

• Employers who employ 30 or more persons for more than 40 days in a year must, under the WHS Act appoint a qualified person as a WHSO
• Principal Contractors must appoint a qualified person as a WHSO for a construction workplace if 30 or more persons work at the workplace during any 24 hour period; or, if the Principal Contractor built at least 30 domestic premises during the previous financial year
• Any person wishing to obtain an accredited qualification in health and safety or enhance their knowledge in health and safety.

Entry Requirements

Participants are required to have sufficient literacy skills to read and comprehend instructions for:

• Referencing and understanding the current Workplace Health and Safety legislation, standards and related material.
• Advising the employer of principal contractor of the state of health and safety at the workplace.
• Preparing workplace health and safety plans and reports and conducting an annual assessment of a workplace.
• Establishing appropriate health and safety educational programs.
• Investigating workplace incidents and accidents.
• Consulting with workers, employers and statutory health and safety officials.
